WEBVTT
00:00:01.919 --> 00:00:08.720
Welcome to Purpose of Heart, the podcast, where real stories meet God's promises.
00:00:09.119 --> 00:00:20.480
I'm Priscilla Allman, and every week we dive into powerful conversations about purpose in the pressure through caregiving, illness, grief, addiction, and more.
00:00:21.440 --> 00:00:27.120
If you've ever asked God, where are you in this?
00:00:28.399 --> 00:00:30.719
You're in the right place.
00:00:31.679 --> 00:00:37.200
Be sure to follow the show and let's find purpose together.
00:00:39.280 --> 00:00:39.920
Hello.
00:00:41.039 --> 00:00:43.759
And welcome back to Purpose of Heart, the podcast.
00:00:43.920 --> 00:00:46.240
I'm your host, Priscilla Allman.
00:00:46.640 --> 00:00:52.560
And today we're going to talk about some of the hardest battles that we fight.
00:01:00.000 --> 00:01:02.719
They happen quietly in our thoughts.
00:01:04.400 --> 00:01:07.280
The voice that says you're not enough.
00:01:07.760 --> 00:01:10.319
The voice that reminds you of your past.
00:01:11.439 --> 00:01:16.799
The voice that tells you everyone else is doing better than you.
00:01:18.719 --> 00:01:22.159
But what if those voices are not telling you the truth?
00:01:22.799 --> 00:01:28.719
What if the way you see yourself is very different from the way God sees you?
00:01:29.680 --> 00:01:35.680
Today we're going to talk about why God's view of you changes absolutely everything.
00:01:35.920 --> 00:01:45.439
And how learning to see yourself the way he does can transform the way you live, the way you walk in purpose, and the way you show up in the world.
00:01:52.640 --> 00:02:04.719
And this is just going to be a space where we're going to slow down, reflect on his word, and remember that even in the ordinary moments of life, God is shaping purpose in our hearts.
00:02:07.439 --> 00:02:10.879
The thing that we're going to be talking about is identity.
00:02:11.360 --> 00:02:15.599
How we see ourselves quietly influences how we approach our work.
00:02:19.840 --> 00:02:30.000
And the truth is, many people are walking through life, carrying a picture of themselves that God never intended them to carry.
00:02:30.719 --> 00:02:38.479
But when we begin to see ourselves through the lens of God's truth, something inside of us begins to shift.
00:02:41.039 --> 00:02:46.479
Most people build their identity by looking into mirrors.
00:02:47.599 --> 00:02:52.080
But the mirrors we use are often unreliable.
00:02:52.879 --> 00:02:55.919
Some people look into the mirror of comparison.
00:02:56.479 --> 00:03:05.599
They see someone else's success, someone else's life, someone else's accomplishments, and they quietly think, maybe I'm not doing enough.
00:03:06.159 --> 00:03:08.879
Maybe I'm not enough.
00:03:09.759 --> 00:03:12.639
Others look into the mirror of past mistakes.
00:03:12.879 --> 00:03:16.240
They replay the moments they wish they could undo.
00:03:17.199 --> 00:03:20.159
They carry regret like a heavy weight.
00:03:20.639 --> 00:03:26.479
And over time they begin to believe that their worst moment defines them.
00:03:27.520 --> 00:03:39.439
And then there is the mirror of other people's opinions, words spoken by teachers, family members, friends, leaders.
00:03:40.159 --> 00:03:46.319
Sometimes those words echo in our hearts long after they were spoken.
00:03:47.199 --> 00:03:52.319
But the truth is, human mirrors distort the image.
00:03:52.960 --> 00:04:00.159
They can magnify flaws, they can replay failures, they can shrink the beauty of what God has created.
00:04:01.520 --> 00:04:05.840
But the Lord doesn't want us to see ourselves the way people see us.
00:04:06.240 --> 00:04:08.719
And he does not see us the way people see us.
00:04:08.960 --> 00:04:19.600
Scripture reminds us in 1 Samuel 16:1, for the Lord does not see as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.
00:04:20.240 --> 00:04:22.399
God's perspective is deeper.
00:04:22.879 --> 00:04:27.040
Where we see limitation, God sees potential.
00:04:27.360 --> 00:04:31.279
Where we see brokenness, God sees something He's still restoring.
00:04:32.160 --> 00:04:38.319
Where we see the end of the story, God sees a life that's still unfolding.
00:04:42.000 --> 00:04:44.399
I want you to sit with this for a moment.
00:04:55.920 --> 00:04:59.920
You were created intentionally by a loving God.
00:05:11.759 --> 00:05:13.680
Think about that for a moment.
00:05:14.720 --> 00:05:18.079
Fearfully and wonderfully made.
00:05:36.560 --> 00:05:39.279
God sees the whole picture.
00:05:39.839 --> 00:05:45.120
But sometimes we look at our lives and only focus on what we think is missing.
00:05:46.000 --> 00:05:49.120
We focus on the things we wish were different.
00:05:49.920 --> 00:05:52.560
God sees something entirely different.
00:05:53.040 --> 00:06:01.519
He sees someone he intentionally created, someone whose life still holds meaning and purpose.
00:06:03.360 --> 00:06:10.959
Another reason people struggle to see themselves the way God does is because they feel defined by their past.
00:06:12.399 --> 00:06:22.319
Maybe there are moments you wish you could rewrite, decisions you regret, seasons of life that bring shame or disappointment.
00:06:23.120 --> 00:06:27.439
But one of the most powerful truths of the gospel is that God is not finished with you.
00:06:27.680 --> 00:06:33.519
2 Corinthians 5.17 tells us, therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.
00:06:33.839 --> 00:06:38.000
Old things have passed away, behold, all things have become new.
00:06:38.480 --> 00:06:41.040
That means your past does not have the final word.
00:06:41.519 --> 00:06:42.480
God does.
00:06:42.879 --> 00:06:51.519
And when God looks at you through the finished work of Christ, he not only sees what you were, he sees who you are becoming.
00:06:52.480 --> 00:06:57.279
He sees the transformation that his grace is shaping in your life.
00:06:59.120 --> 00:07:01.439
You are deeply loved.
00:07:03.439 --> 00:07:12.879
Sometimes the hardest truth to accept is not that God is all-powerful, it's that God loves us personally.
00:07:14.079 --> 00:07:23.680
Many people believe that God loves the world, but deep down they wonder if that love truly includes every single bit of them.
00:07:25.519 --> 00:07:28.160
Scripture answers that question clearly.
00:07:28.399 --> 00:07:37.759
Romans chapter 5, verse 8 says, But God demonstrates his own love towards us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
00:07:38.639 --> 00:07:42.480
God's love did not begin when we became perfect.
00:07:42.800 --> 00:07:45.680
It did not begin when we had everything together.
00:07:46.079 --> 00:07:49.920
It reached us right in the middle of our brokenness.
00:07:51.600 --> 00:07:56.560
That means the love of God meets you exactly where you are today.
00:07:57.120 --> 00:08:01.279
And when God looks at you, he does not see someone who's beyond redemption.
00:08:01.839 --> 00:08:28.959
He sees someone worth redeeming, someone who he gave his very life for.com.

00:08:51.200 --> 00:08:55.759
Learning to see yourself the way God sees you is a process.
00:08:56.799 --> 00:08:58.080
It takes time.
00:08:58.720 --> 00:09:04.240
It requires gently replacing old narratives we've carried with the truth of God's word.
00:09:05.200 --> 00:09:07.600
Comparison whispers.
00:09:08.320 --> 00:09:14.559
And when that happens, we can remember God created me intentionally.
00:09:15.120 --> 00:09:20.559
When our past tries to define us, we remember I am the new creation in Christ.
00:09:20.799 --> 00:09:25.039
When insecurity rises, we remember I am deeply loved by God.
00:09:25.759 --> 00:09:29.279
And slowly something begins to change.
00:09:29.759 --> 00:09:37.120
We begin to walk differently, not with arrogance, but with quiet confidence, rooted in God's truth.
00:09:37.519 --> 00:09:43.039
We stop striving to prove our worth because we begin to understand something powerful.
00:09:43.360 --> 00:09:48.399
Our worth was already established at the cross.
00:09:49.919 --> 00:10:05.600
And if there's something that you know that you struggle with personally, I'd encourage you to find verses in scripture that speak to that point and repeat those verses to yourself.
00:10:09.759 --> 00:10:15.360
If you've been struggling with how you see yourself, I want to encourage you with this truth today.
00:10:15.679 --> 00:10:18.240
God is not looking at you through the lens of your failures.
00:10:18.399 --> 00:10:22.320
He's not measuring your life against someone else's journey.
00:10:22.720 --> 00:10:26.000
He's not disappointed that you haven't arrived yet.
00:10:26.320 --> 00:10:32.240
He's looking at you with the love of a father who knows every single detail of your story.
00:10:32.960 --> 00:10:43.120
And the more you spend time in his presence, the more you spend time in his word, the clearer that picture becomes.
00:10:50.720 --> 00:10:56.720
If this episode encouraged you, consider sharing it with someone who may need this reminder today.
00:10:57.679 --> 00:11:04.320
And remember this: the world will always offer mirrors that distort who we are.
00:11:05.039 --> 00:11:08.480
But the word of God reveals something deeper.
00:11:08.720 --> 00:11:10.639
You are created with intention.
00:11:11.120 --> 00:11:18.720
You are redeemed through Christ, and you are loved more deeply than you realize.
00:11:19.360 --> 00:11:30.480
And when you begin to see yourself the way God sees you, you will start walking in purpose, and the very purpose that He placed in you from the very beginning.
00:11:31.440 --> 00:11:35.440
Until next time, my friends, I'll see you soon.
00:11:38.720 --> 00:11:46.240
