What if the greatest answer to your prayer isn't what God gives you—but who He is shaping you to become?

In this episode of Purpose of Heart: The Podcast, Priscilla Allman explores the often-overlooked truth that answered prayers require preparation. While we naturally pray for open doors, greater influence, healing, provision, purpose, or deeper relationships, God is equally concerned with developing the character, capacity, and spiritual maturity needed to sustain those blessings.

Through biblical wisdom and practical encouragement, this episode reminds us that seasons of waiting are never wasted. God uses hidden seasons to build integrity, deepen our faith, refine our motives, and enlarge our capacity so that when the promise arrives, we're prepared to steward it well.

If you've been wondering why God seems to be taking His time, this conversation will encourage you to see the waiting differently—not as a delay, but as a season of becoming.

Welcome to Purpose of Heart the Podcast, where real stories meet God's promises. If you've ever asked God, where are you in this? You're in the right place. Be sure to follow the show and let's find purpose together. Welcome back to Purpose Apart, the podcast, a space where we grow deeper in faith, walk boldly in purpose, and learn how to live fully aligned with God's heart. Today's conversation is one that will meet you right in the middle of your prayers and your process. We're talking about becoming who you prayed to be, the growth required to sustain answered prayer. Because if we're honest, many of us have prayed for doors to open. We've prayed for elevation, we've prayed for influence, impact, healing, clarity, marriage, purpose, or anything else, to be completely honest. But what we don't often realize is this answered prayers don't just change your circumstances, they require transformation of your character. The weight of what you asked for. Let's start here. Sometimes we romanticize the promise, but we underestimate the responsibility that comes with it. You prayed for influence, but influence requires integrity. You prayed for leadership, but leadership requires discipline. You prayed for healing, but healing requires surrender. You prayed for more, but more requires stewardship. Scripture reminds us in Luke 16, 10, he who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much. And he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much. God is not just preparing the blessing, he's preparing you to carry it. Because if he gave you everything you ever asked for right here, right now, without any of the growth, would you be able to sustain it? Or would you, or would it crush you under the weight of what you weren't ready to carry yet? Right? A lot of times, like and if we just think about this practically, right? Like if you've never lifted weights before, you wouldn't necessarily just be able to go into the gym and lift, you know, be on par with lifting what like heavy weight lifters lift, right? A couple hundred pounds. Like that's wouldn't be a thing. You'd have to train in order to get up there. Because if you tried, and even if you succeeded in getting that huge weight above your head, you wouldn't be able to hold or sustain it. It would just come crashing down, and you could get really injured. There's a hidden season of becoming. But heaven is not silent in those seasons, so is building. Romans 5, 3 to 4 says, we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance and perseverance character and character hope. Because character is what sustains the promise. And here's the truth for many don't talk about. Sometimes the re the reason the prayer hasn't fully manifested yet is because the current version of you cannot sustain the answered version in your life. Now that could be one reason. Obviously, there's many more potentially of reasons. And if that is the case, right, if there's more growth that needs to happen in your life, it's not condemnation, that's love. God is too faithful to give you something that would destroy you. Ecclesiastes 3:1 reminds us to everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven. There is a timing not just for the blessing, but also for your maturity. So while you're asking God, when will it happen? He's asking, are you becoming who can sustain it? Growth often feels like loss before it feels like fulfillment. You may have to let go of old habits, old mindsets, even old environments. Because the version of you that prayed that prayer cannot remain the same and walk into that promise. 2 Corinthians 5, 17, therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. Old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new. Becoming who you prayed requires new discipline, new boundaries, new thinking, new obedience. And sometimes that feels uncomfortable. But discomfort is often the evidence that transformation is happening. Let's go a little deeper, shall we? Answered prayers are not just about receiving and getting the things, they are about stewarding. Anyone can receive something, but not everyone can maintain and steward it. Think about it. You prayed for peace. You prayed for a platform, right? Can you steward that platform with humility? You prayed for a relationship. Can you nurture it with patience and love? 1 Peter 4 10 says, As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. Stewardship is evidence of spiritual maturity. And God doesn't just answer prayers, He entrusts assignments. There's principles that we kind of all are governed by, and that one of them is that capacity proceeds in groups. God expands you internally before He elevates you externally. Because if your capacity is small, even a big blessing will feel overwhelming. Isaiah 54, 2 says, Enlarge the place of your tent and let them stretch out the curtains of your dwellings. Do not spare, lengthen your cords and strengthen your sticks. Stretching, strengthening, making room. And that is what God's doing in you right now. He's enlarging your capacity so that when the blessing comes, you don't just receive it, you're able to sustain it. It can be so tempting to rush the process. Want the outcome without the preparation, right? To want the promise without the preparation, to want the outcome without obedience, the fruit without the pruning. But John 15, 2 reminds us, every branch that bears fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit. Pruning is not punishment, it's preparation for greater fruit. So if God is removing things, refining you, stretching you, it's not because he's withholding the promise, it's because he's making sure you can sustain it. At the core of all this is alignment. Matthew 6.21, for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Becoming who you pray to be is not just about what you do, it's about who you're becoming in your heart, where your treasure is, the things that you value. One thing that we can think about a little bit is if our desires are aligned with God, are our motives pure? Are we seeking Him more than the outcome? Because when our heart is aligned, the promise, the thing that you're praying for, won't distract you. It will glorify Him through you. So here's the encouragement today. If you're in a season, it kind of feels like stretching, growing, being refined. Don't despise it. You are becoming who you prayed to be. Every moment of discipline, every act of obedience, every quiet yes to God is shaping you into someone who can carry the weight of those answered prayers with grace. Galatians 6 9 says, and let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. Your due season is coming. But more importantly, you're becoming the person who can sustain it. If this episode spoke with you, share this with someone who's in their becoming season. And remember, you're not just waiting.
