What comes to your mind when you hear the word “Father”? For some, it brings comfort. For others, it carries questions, distance, or even pain. In this episode of Purpose of Heart Podcast, Priscilla Allman gently unpacks how our earthly experiences can shape the way we see God—often without us even realizing it.

Through Scripture and reflection, she invites you into a deeper understanding of who God truly is: a loving, present, compassionate, and faithful Father. One who is not distant or hard to please, but near, intentional, and deeply invested in your life.

This conversation explores how God’s nature contrasts with the limitations of human experiences. He is a Father who provides, who stays, who understands, and who leads with both love and truth. Even in places where there has been absence, hurt, or confusion, God steps in with consistency and care.

If you’ve ever struggled to trust God fully or felt unsure of His heart toward you, this episode offers a quiet space for healing and perspective. As you begin to see God as the perfect Father, something begins to shift—you pray differently, trust more deeply, and walk with a renewed sense of peace and identity.

You are not walking through life alone. You are walking as a child who is deeply loved.

Welcome to Purpose of Heart, the podcast, where real stories meet God's promises. I'm Priscilla Allman, and every week we dive into powerful conversations about purpose and the pressure through caregiving, illness, grief, addiction, and more. If you've ever asked God, where are you in this? You're in the right place. Be sure to follow the show and let's find purpose together. What comes to your mind when you hear the word father? For some, it brings comfort. For others, it brings questions. For some, it carries warmth, and for others, it may carry pain. Because our understanding of a father is often shaped by our experiences. But what if the way we see earthly fathers has quietly shaped and influenced how we see God? And what if God is inviting us into a deeper, truer understanding of who He is? Today we're going to talk about what it means to see God as the perfect father and how that truth can begin to heal, restore, and reshape the way you live. Welcome back to Purpose of Heart the podcast. I'm your host, Priscilla Allman, and this is just a space where we are going to bring our real questions, our real experiences, and place them before the truth of God's word. Our relationship with God is deeply personal. But sometimes without realizing it, we can carry assumptions about Him. We may see Him as distant, as a disappointment, or as disappointed, as hard to please. And often those views don't come from scripture, they come from experiences. But today, we're going to gently lay those perceptions down and look at what the Word of God actually reveals. Because when we begin to see God or who He truly is, everything changes. Let's start with this foundational truth. God is a loving father. God is not just powerful, he is personal. Matthew 7.11 says, if you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him? This verse gives us a comparison, right? If imperfect human parents can give good gifts, how much more does a perfect God desire to care for his children? God is not withholding good from you. He is a father who gives, a father who provides, a father who cares. God is present, not distant. One of the most common misconceptions about God is that he's far away. But scripture reminds us of something different. Psalm 68.5 says, A father of the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy habitation. This verse shows us the heart of God. Even if your earthly experience with a father was limited or painful, or both, God is not absent. He is present, and his presence is consistent. God is compassionate and understanding. Sometimes we carry the fear that God is disappointed in us, that he's watching, waiting for us to fail, or something else. But scripture paints a different picture. That's very different. Psalm 103.13 says, as a father pities his children, so the Lord pities those who fear him. The word pities here speaks to compassion, understanding, gentleness. God sees your struggles, he sees your effort, he sees your heart, and he responds with compassion, not harshness. This doesn't mean though, that he ignores growth or correction. But even his correction comes from a place of love and not rejection. One of the deepest needs we have is for consistency, to know that someone will remain, that they won't walk away, that their presence is steady. And this is exactly who God is. Deuteronomy 31:8 reminds us, and the Lord, He is the one who goes before you. He will be with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you. God's presence isn't temporary. He does not only show up in certain seasons. He does not withdraw when life is difficult. He remains even when you're when you feel uncertain. Even when you're faithful, small, even when you don't have all of the answers, God stays. Because it means separating who God is from what we may have experienced. And that process takes time. It may look like letting go of old assumptions, allowing scripture to reshape your understanding, learning to trust again step by step. But here's something important to remember: God is not asking you to pretend like whatever happened in your past or your life or even in your present didn't happen. He's inviting you to discover who he truly is. And as you spend time in his word, as you begin to experience more of his presence, your understanding begins to shift. You begin to see that God is not distant, he's near. God is not harsh, he's compassionate. And he's not inconsistent, he's faithful. Living as a child of God. When you begin to see God as the perfect father, it changes the way you live. You begin to pray differently, not out of fear, but out of relationship. You begin to trust differently. Not because everything's clear, but because you know who's leading you. You begin to walk with a sense of security, because your identity is no longer based on performance. It's rooted in being a child of God. Romans 8:15 says, You received a spirit of adoption by whom we carry, we cry out, Abba Father. Abba is a deeply personal term. It reflects closeness, connection, trust. God invites you into that type of relationship with Him. If your view of God has ever felt distant, unclear, or was shaped by past experiences, I want to encourage you today. God is not who your experiences may have suggested. He's better. He is more faithful, and he is more present than you may realize. And as you begin to see him as the perfect father, something begins to change within you. You begin to feel safe in his presence. You begin to trust his guidance. You begin to rest in his love. Thank you for spending time with me today on purpose of part of the podcast. If this episode encouraged you, consider sharing it with someone who may need to hear this truth. And remember this: when you begin to see God as the perfect father, you begin to live with a deeper sense of security, peace, and purpose. Because you're not walking through life alone. You're walking as a child who is deeply loved. Even to the point where your perfect father gave his son to die for you. Until next time, friends, I'll see you soon.
